2022
- from this point to the present, my business and corporate work become too overwhelming to work on any creative endeavors, hence the reason where this is still so much unreleased material sitting on the shelf. hopefully at some point soon there will be some breathing room for me to release things or actually do something creative again.
2021
- i start DJing more often, under the name James Boned, with club residencies and live stream transmissions happening often. depending on the venue, i tend to play either heavy industrial influenced club music, relatively mainstream sounding progressive house, or downtempo / dub / psychill. over the next couple of years, i've amassed hundreds of hours of live set recordings.
- i also produced a full length album under the name James Boned, however it has not yet been released.
- an additional two albums as the valley of wolves, as well as solo records under my own name were completed and are as yet unreleased.
2020
- i release an album of creative loop / tools, 'solid.grey.spaces.volume.two'. while it isn't exactly 'music', i certainly came up with the best track names of all time.
- a new album, 'the magic of errrors', from the valley of wolves was released; in continues to focus more on our interests in destructive tape manipulation.
- 'chilean field recordings' were finally released
2019
- white.light.monorail releases a new album, 'the gravitational field of oblivion', and two supporting singles, 'oblivion' and 'silence : transformed'.
- trips to amsterdam, singapore, thailand, and bali; field recordings are currently in the editing stages
- several new album releases are planned
2018
- a trip to chile was undertaken for new field recordings
- the new album, two accompanying singles, and a new video from white.light.monorail are completed; not yet released
2017
- i released an album of ambient drones under my own name, called 'aerial structures'
- archeological work through a trove of cassettes made in the early 90's begins, yielding some real gems (some to be released in the future)
2016
- the debut album, 'invisible_weapons', from negative_crush is finally released, on valentine's day no less
- a trip to cuba provided an amazing set of field recordings; these have not been released yet
- a new drone trilogy from one horse town is completed; these have not been released yet
2015
- trips to mexico and thailand for further field recordings; these have yet to be released (but soon!)
- work begins on a new album from white.light.monorail
- music from my album 'the oregon trail' was used extensively throughout skyler thomas' award winning documentary film 'great white lies'
- from here to the present, my seniority level in my corporate life starts really impacting my ability to complete and release creative works...
2014
- the debut album from white.light.monorail, 'welcome to our domed future', is released; along with a video created for the song 'sparc'
- the second album from AEC, 'sex.drug.sequence' is finally released
- trips to scotland and iceland yield some incredible sets of new field recordings, though it took a few years to get them edited and released
- i produce and engineer another album from the valley of wolves, 'play machines', which takes a more electronic / noise direction
- a new album from one horse town is released, called 'the continental divide'
2013
- informatik releases our second single 'how long', which actually does well on the club charts; followed by our final album (to date), 'playing with fire'
- a trip to spain yields a massive three volume set of field recordings covering madrid, san sebastian, and barcelona (and some other places as well)
- unfortunately, the film project collapses due to lack of financing; however, i released the soundtrack for 'zonekiller' to reasonable acclaim
- after several years of label operation, we release the second label compilation as the twentieth release; all tracks are exclusive or rare
- an old informatik side project called 'opium' was finally freed from it's former contractual hell, and we finally were able to release the album 'twilight'
2012
- the debut album, 'hate life', from AEC is finally released after languishing for many years
- i produce and engineer another album from the valley of wolves, 'obsidian steps into infinity'; this time with a much more experimental metal sound
- a trip to vietnam yields another great set of field recordings, as well as multiple travel videos
- i completed two new records as one horse town; one was a new studio recording called 'the oregon trail', and the other derived from my first and only live performance under this project name, called '06.25.12' [yes it's a very clever name, i know]
- i also created a video for the songs 'you have died of dysentery', as well as 'figures seen on the horizon'; both from 'the oregon trail' album
- i release a set of field recordings derived from various industrial sites, called 'solid.grey.spaces'
- informatik makes another annual appearance on a dependent records compilation album; they sort of lost interest in us after this one
- i start collaborating with a team of film school students, working on the soundtrack for a sci-fi / horror film
- paul savio and i start working on a new project called 'white.light.monorail'
- i contribute some sound design to the everything goes cold album 'the tyrant sun'
2011
- a trip to bali indonesia kicks off a new obsession with field recordings; despite some equipment failure, the mission is a success overall
- i also start experimenting with travel videos
- i created a new project focusing on extreme longform music, called one horse town, and release one of my favorite records "westward expansion"
- one horse town released it's first video, for the song 'boundless nature preserve'; which i shot on super 8
- informatik is featured on yet another dependent records compilation album; this track will be the first released from our next album
2010
- the autio album 'death' is released; tragically it barely sells, but remains one of my favorite records
- solid.grey.sky.recordings releases it's tenth record, a label compilation spanning an array of different unreleased work
- work begins on a new informatik album; a remix from our previous album 'beyond' appears on a compilation from dependent records
- the valley of wolves does it's first and only live performance to date
2009
- informatik launched a remix contest for some tracks from 'beyond', some of which went on to appear on compilations
- informatik releases 'arena', our sixth album, on metropolis records in the united states, and dependent records in the EU
- informatik adds a new live member, aaron stone, and tours the US (as headliner) and the EU (supporting our friends Mesh and Janosch Moldau); it is the greatest tour of all time
- working with skyler thomas, informatik created a video for our single 'come together' in advance of our tour; it is our only "official" video
- yosh and i create a new project, called autio, and record and mix an album of dronish noise together, called 'death'
2008
- battery cage releases our final album, 'forever never ends', on metropolis records
- informatik takes a dramatic stylistic change of direction on 'beyond', our fifth album, released on metropolis records
- i contributed a one-off track to a somewhat "inside jokey" anti-racism compilation, called 'songs in the key of death'
- i also contributed vocals to another somewhat "inside jokey" cover of the KLF's 'what time is love'; alongside members of everything goes cold, xp8, and claire voyant
- i produced and mixed the debut album for an excellent band, 'the valley of wolves', called 'blackness poured from the sky, and darkened the earth'; as well as the subsequent EP release called 'saturnalia'
2007
- i did a fair amount of "DJ" work during this year, covering both the west and east coasts of the united states
- work begins on a new battery cage album
- work begins on a new informatik album
- having fallen deep under the spell of post-rock and doom metal, i start working on a new project called negative_crush and begin recording material
- somehow i was talked into rapping on a cover of 'the humpty dance' by a bunch of horny midwesterners
2006
- battery cage releases a digital single, called 'single', on metropolis records, featuring a remix from manufacture!
- battery cage releases 'a young persons guide to heartbreak' on metropolis records; this is pretty unanimously considered our best record
- informatik toured the central and eastern united states, including a few co-headlining slots at festivals such as freaks united festival in washington dc and the black sun festival in connecticut
- the AEC song 'still' was featured on a mexican electro-clash compilation called 'future_clash'
- battery cage did a remix for the gothsicles fantastic song 'the konami code' which was released on their album 'NESferatu'
2005
- we launch our own label, solid.grey.sky.recordings, to self-release the overlooked album 'product'
- stromkern and battery cage do a magical tour of the united states; our new orleans date is canceled by hurricane katrina
- i collaborate with kelly schaffer to release a remix of the stromkern hit 'stand up', under the name army of darkness, which also makes it to the EU via dependent records
- work concludes on the debut album from k-ninja's, 'enter the poontang clan'
- a band called 'cyclone-b' remixed the battery cage song 'caged' for the short lived static sky records; appearing on their only compilation; interestingly this compilation also featured the army of darkness remix of 'stand up'
- a remixed version of the battery cage song 'deadmorning' also made a compilation appearance
2004
- battery cage signs with metropolis records; who proceed to release our second full length album 'world.wide.wasteland'
- informatik releases 're:vision'; an album of new material and remixes, featuring iris, funker vogt, and assemblage 23. it also includes a live video for the song 'watching you watching me' (recorded on our din_fiv tour in 2000)
- i did a collaboration with canadian band, prospero, that appeared on several compilations and got a reasonable amount of club play
- work begins on the next battery cage album
- work concludes on the AEC album 'sex.drug.sequence'
- i go on tour with stromkern throughout the central and eastern unites states; practically nothing bad happens!
2003
- i relocate from boston to san francisco!
- battery cage completes recording of 'world.wide.wasteland'
- work concludes on the debut AEC record 'hate life'
2002
- we release the informatik album 'nymphomatik' on metropolis records; this goes on to be our biggest selling album, spawning club hits around the world
- scorpion bowl completes our first album 'B-Sides: 1978 - 1983'; unfortunately, michael decides to stop the project and quit drumming for battery cage
- i meet stacey p. and we begin work on a new AEC record called 'sex.drug.sequence'
- battery cage adds paul savio (keys), roland adams (drums) and m.crazz (bass) to the live lineup; we continue with lots of live performances
- stromkern and battery cage perform together for the first time, and we film a live video for our song 'mirror image enemy'
- we shoot and release the videos for the battery cage songs 'deadmorning' and 'hater'
- battery cage does a remix of the stromkern' song 'no release', which gets released as a DJ-only single in the EU
2001
- scorpion bowl begins performing live; blurring the border of pre-recorded DJing and live performances, along with full sensory experience. you had to be there to really get it.
- battery cage makes an appearance on the 'resist the command 2' cd compilation; featuring a brand new track 'statemachine'
- AEC makes its first compilation appearance on 'coronal mass ejection', with the exclusive track 'endless hate'
- battery cage self releases our single 'ecstasy' , which quickly hits the industrial / dance charts
- despite still being a ways from finishing the 'world wide wasteland' abum, battery cage self releases a follow up EP 'duality' which sells out almost immediately
- adam jensen (grenadier) starts assisting with vocal production duties on battery cage and AEC album projects
- i start a new project focusing more on hip-hop / dub music called 'k-ninjas'
2000
- battery cage begins working on new material; the initial sessions for what would become 'world wide wasteland'
- da5id releases the din_fiv album 'escape to reality'; i provided a remix for the song 'terminal condition'
- i go on tour with din_fiv (playing keyboards), alongside our friends velvet acid christ and haujobb, across the US; definitely one of the tour highlights of my life. so. much. debauchery.
- i join informatik as a full time member of the band; we begin work on the album 'nymphomatik'
- michael white joins battery cage as our drummer; live shows continue
- the battery cage song 'caged' appears on the 'resist the command' compilation cd; we perform in california for the first time at the cd launch party
- the final acid reflex performance happens in santa barbara; this project came to an end at this time
- Y2K happens and we partied our way through it
1999
- josh greco joins battery cage, and we continue performing live; although no new material is really underway at this time
- i start performing with an amorphous collection of new england area artists under the name 'hawaiian shirt mafia'; though there was no released material from this project, it was a lot of fun to participate in at live shows
- i meet michael white and start working together under the name 'scorpion bowl'
- AEC starts live performance; featuring adam jensen (grenadier) and the ever changing 'apathy girls'
1998
- SINless Records closes the door, da5id relocates to california.
- informatik signs with metropolis records, the album 'syntax' gets released; proceeds to tear up the industrial / alternative charts in the US and EU.
- battery cage completes our debut album 'product'; unfortunately, with SINless closed, the album goes unreleased as we were unable to find a label willing to take a chance on it.
- i launch a new live performance techno project called 'acid reflex'; catering mostly to the rave scene, despite there being plenty of live shows, no recorded material from this project ever materialized.
- one member of the battery cage live crew, will goulet, dies tragically in a fire; the initial incarnation of the band basically disintegrates at this point.
1997
- begin working with da5id din at SINless Records; focusing on marketing and retail partners for the LogiQ album 'big on mars'
- the sleep chamber album 'some godz die young' is released; i proceed to spend a month on tour with the band in germany. this was both an amazing and terrible experience, as the tour was not under the greatest management and i lost a fair amount of money. however, it was a truly incredible experience to have as a "first tour".
- begin collaborative studio work on the informatik album 'syntax'.
- battery cage now fully established as a powerful live band, we became one of the 'go-to' opening bands in the boston area, performing with bands such as hate dept, diatribe, SMP, sleep chamber, zia, and many many others.
- during a slower than desirable recording schedule for battery cage, i aggressively ramp up work on my "solo project" AEC; this work would later coalesce into the album 'hate life'
1996
- battery cage begins to establish itself as a live band; core lineup of me, AJ, and jeremy is solidified
- work beginning in earnest on the battery cage debut album 'product'; recording late into the evenings at cybersound
- collaborative studio work on the fierce tibetan gods debut album 'dreams of earth and sky' [mostly sampling and editing]
- collaborative studio work on the sleep chamber album 'some godz die young' [mostly synth programming and sample editing]
- a chance meeting with da5id din leads to the first battery cage compilation appearance on 'boston elektro 101'
1995
- began a life altering internship at cybersound studios; one of the greatest experiences of my life (then or now)
- earliest battery cage live performances around the boston metro area; these were an important first step in understanding live performances
- earliest battery cage demos were being recorded during this period, still very formative but trending in a positive direction
- i meet josh greco at cybersound, we begin working together on demos for an as-yet-unnamed solo project; this project would later become AEC
1990 - 1994
- my high school period which was a magical time of discovery and experimentation
- formed my first punk rock band ["eye love fun"] and had many formative experiences in collaborative musical effort
- initial experiences with multi-track tape recording, beginning a lifelong journey of recording audio and making noises
- fledgling efforts with early electronic sequencer technology; mostly unlistenable results
- began the early efforts to put a "real band" together; this became battery cage in it's earliest form
1975 - 1989
- from birth through my early teenage angst, i assure you there was very little of creative importance happening during this period.
